About the exhibition:

The World Press Photo 2018 exhibition is an exhibition of the winning works of the most prestigious international photojournalism competition. The photos in the exhibition, recognized as the best, reflect the most important events of the previous year.

Hundreds of thousands of photos from all over the world are sent to the competition, which is held annually. Every year after the announcement of the results of the competition, an exhibition of winning works, reflecting the most important events of the previous year, is shown in Amsterdam for two months and then sent to travel the world.

This year, the jury members viewed more than 73 thousand photographs from 4.5 thousand photographers from 125 countries. 42 photographers became the winners.

The winner in the main nomination "Photo of the Year 2018" became a photographer from Venezuela Ronaldo Shemidt. The photograph depicts a burning running man in a gas mask — 28-year-old Jose Victor Salazar Balsa, who participated in anti-government demonstrations in Caracas on May 3, 2017.

About World Press Photo:

World Press Photo is the world’s most prestigious photography competition which largely determines the standards of the profession. Each year, an international independent jury of professional photographers and media photo editors evaluates the submitted works of photojournalists, agencies, newspapers and magazines from all over the world in 9 different categories.

The World Press Photo Foundation was founded in 1955 under the auspices of the Prince of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is a unique platform for independent photojournalism and the free exchange of information around the world. On average, it is visited annually by about two million people in 100 cities from 45 countries. The exhibition is non-commercial.

The reality is changing, technology is changing, but among these global changes, World Press Photo's commitment to visual journalism and the belief that people deserve to see the world around them and express themselves freely remains unchanged. Freedom of expression, freedom of speech and freedom of the press are more important than ever. World Press Photo is committed to equality and diversity.

In Kazakhstan, the exhibition will be presented for the third time. Prior to this, the exhibition was held in Astana, Almaty, Karaganda and Ust-Kamenogorsk in 2013 and 2014.
