What? Screening of Seide — a short film by Elnura Osmonalieva

Where? SIGS space (Almaty, Kazakhstan)

When? Thursday, August 9 at 7 p.m.

 

Seide is “a sad beautiful film about growing up and having to make hard choices” as the director Elnura Osmonalieva describes her work.

The short film was presented at over 25 festivals around the world, including Venice International Film Festival (2015) and Sundance (2016).

Elnura Osmonalieva was born in Kyrgyzstan, the heart of Central Asia, in 1981. She attended a Soviet school and later studied in the U.S. just a few years following the disintegration of the Soviet Union. She is an advocate for art and education. Her works explore human experiences in the circumstances of poverty and strong societal pressures. She is enrolled as a graduate film student at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Currently she is living between Bishkek and Almaty where she founded Bilimkana schools.
